Directrooms.com – August Fiestas in Madrid to Attract Large Number of Visitors
The La Latina and Lavapies districts of Madrid are expecting large numbers of tourists for their San Cayetano and San Lorenzo Fiestas, putting pressure on local hotel rooms.

July 19, 2010 (FPRC) -- Spanish Saint’s Day festivals are favourite destinations for holidaymakers, with Madrid an already popular destination. In 2010, the city districts of Lavapies and La Latina hold their San Lorenzo and San Cayetano fiestas together between 7 and 10 August, and are gearing up for an increase in visitor numbers as a result.
The two Saint’s Days will see their streets crowded with local residents and visitors, all taking part in the celebrations in Plaza de Lavapi and Plaza de Cascorro as well as in the smaller squares in both districts. Colourful decorations and masses of flowers will enliven the scene, with street parties, live music, Spanish dances, dining and drinking completing the picture.
As part of these traditional celebrations, local people dress up in costumes from the 19th century and take part in parades through the streets. The evenings are the times for the religious festivals and church services, with the images of the two saints being carried high above the crowds to music and applause.
Spain’s many fiestas and festivals are a huge visitor draw, with Madrid hotels in particular the target of advance bookings, according to brand leader DirectRooms.com. To avoid disappointment or a long journey by public transport fiesta locations, tourists are advised to book well in advance.
