August 5, 2010 (FPRC) -- Being held within Cebu’s Talisay City, the festival is a religious celebration to commemorate Saint Teresa of Avila, the prominent Spanish nun who is also the patron saint of the city.
Every year the Halad festival features a special feast to celebrate the Saint comprising local Filipino dishes and the city’s most famous offering, lechon. Thought to be one of the best in the country, lechon is a suckling pig, spit roasted with a special blend of herbs and spices. A series of live cooking demonstrations will also be taking place at the event along with a huge food fair where visitors can sample the city’s best cuisine.
The one day event, which takes place on Friday 15th October 2010, sees the area come to life with animated performances from the city’s residents. Visitors staying in Cebu hotels will find the streets packed with locals dressed in brightly coloured clothes performing all kinds of traditional dances along with a civic parade.
People from all over the country come to join in the festivities which could result in hotels being in short supply during the course of the celebrations.
The evening also plays host to a series of nighttime variety shows including a competition to find Ms Talisay City Tourism. Judges will also be sampling a number of lechon dishes to decide the winner of the tastiest lechon contest.
