August 6, 2010 (FPRC) -- Considered the largest and oldest theatre festival in Europe, it was founded in 1957 by the theatre impresario Brendan Smith and has run consecutively every year with the exception of two years. It was considered one of the most pivotal events in post-World War II times and strove to foster tolerance and cultural understanding between various nations around the world. In the past 50 years it has become one of Ireland's most crucial cultural events. It has also been one of the main theatre events in terms of world importance, presenting many of the great theatre artists of the late 20th century, as well as showcasing the best in Irish writing.
The 2010 Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival is set to present 26 unique shows from 12 different countries across 16 venues spread throughout the city, offering theatre lovers an amazing opportunity to see the best of Irish and international productions.
