August 28, 2010 (FPRC) -- In her continuing quest to break the code of silence behind childhood abuse, Jenny Miller is presenting a multi-media poetry performance at Healing Through Creativity's Annual Festival in Roanoke, Virginia. Healing Through Creativity provides an opportunity for all survivors of any trauma to share every creative media, and has a positive focus.
Miller will be using her poetry and artwork, along with music and other visuals to tell the moving story of her origins as an emotionally, physically and sexually abused child through her transformation into the confident, giving woman she is today. Her main focus is helping others find their voices, because she believes that hurt held within continues to harm children and adult survivors of trauma and abuse. For Miller, speaking out and standing up to abusers and the conspiracy to hide the abuse is the path to recovery and a step toward stopping the abuse from happening in the first place.
Excerpt from Author's Forward: "I am a survivor; I know the dark underbelly; I obeyed the code of silence. And now I choose to talk about and write about it . . . I carry my light into the darkness."
The festival will be at the Grandin Gardens, 1731 Grandin Road, Roanoke, Virgina. The festival is free and is organized by survivors for survivors.
