December 21, 2010 (FPRC) -- Most of the time people make wrong career decision due to lack of proper guidance or misinformation. According to Emily Corona, founder of lpntrainingprograms.org, there is a huge demand for nurses in hospitals and other health care facilities and yet there seem to be low number of nursing students who complete school every year as compared to the number of retiring nurses. The numbers are not proportional.
One of the main contributing factors for shortage of licensed nurses is the aging of existing nurse practitioners without adequate supply of fresh graduates to join the industry. According to Florida Center for Nursing in 2009 the average age of RNs across the nation was 45. Healthcare is a very dynamic industry and its growth is directly influenced by population and economic growth. Even though bad economy can sometimes slowdown availability of jobs in healthcare industry, nursing in particular, but it’s probably the first one to resume its normal trend fast.
Nursing is a versatile healthcare profession with so many branches. It’s virtually unimaginable to run a healthcare facility without nurses. The most wanted form of nursing is RN (registered nurses). There are millions of licensed RNs all over the nation and there are still a lot of vacant positions in hospitals. It may not be as much as RNs but there is also a very good job opportunity for LPNs (licensed practical nurses). There are around 750,000 LPNs nationwide and there are potentially more job openings for new graduates. Nursing is a very attractive profession for students with finical problem. Education required for entry level is minimal and expense of education is low as well. One can start from being CAN (certified nurse aid) and can climb up the career ladder with short education programs which may be completed par time.
