January 21, 2011 (FPRC) -- Sonia Narvaez of CPA Accounting & Tax Services explained at a recent seminar why accounting is the essential bottom-line backbone of any successful business.
Sonia said that 'Without an accountant - and good accounting records you can't see where you've been, where you are, or in what direction your business is headed'. Sonia further explained how tracking a business’ performance requires accurate record keeping. Business strategies may need to be honed if the results do not meet expectations.
The only way to reality check the health of your business is to look at what's coming in and what's going out... credits and debits are the voices that tell you if your business is growing or in need of an overhaul.
Business taxes are complicated and constantly getting revised. A good accountant knows the latest tax regulations, how to set up your business to take advantage of incentives and how to keep your tax payments on time and accurate. Knowing which deductions apply to your business and taking every benefit available can mean a lower tax bill for your business. If the government decides to audit your company books, your accountant will have everything in order to make the experience as painless as possible.
Sonia provided an interesting insight to the group when she explained how many small business owners often wear the accountant's hat along with many others. She said 'That's fine if you know what you are doing but could be losing your money if you do not'. Most experts advise getting an accountant to go over your books -- even if you do the bookkeeping yourself. Many companies are now using software programs such as QuickBooks or Quicken to track their business. However, the front end investment in the software and learning how to use it is a significant investment that could be eliminated by using an accountant who will keep your books for you, thus freeing up time to spend developing your business. The profits you make with the time you've gained often more than make up for the cost of a good accountant.
Sonia points out that a good accounting firm will offer a full array of both business accounting services and business consulting services. The firm should monitor a regular stream of tax news and updates as the IRS announces new laws and regulations throughout the year. She encouraged small and medium sized business to rethink their approach to accounting and tax services and to call her to discuss their particular situation.
