Koh Lanta Presents a Festival of Cultures in the Early of March 2011

January 23, 2011 (FPRC) -- Set to start in the beginning of March, Laanta Lanta Festival 2011 will be a representation of the greatest music, dances and songs from the area which will be performed live at stages across the island. Over the entire three days visitors can see many different displays of traditional and modern music which will all be performed by the best local groups and acts.
A key show is the ancient Sea Gypsy dance, also known as Rong-Ngan, which will take place along with a special ceremony that sees members of the community casting a boat out to sea. The ritual is said to signify the releasing of bad spirits while also paying tribute to ancestors and people can be seen adding cuttings of their own hair and nails which represents getting rid of bad luck.
At the festival will also be the opportunity to try some of the delicious local foods cooked by the different communities that inhabit the island. Visitors staying in a hotel in Koh Lanta can choose from over 50 cooking stations that are set to be included with the shows.
