The Football World Cup for Robots Kicks off in Kaohsiung from 26 to 30 August 2011

July 7, 2011 (FPRC) -- The FIRA RoboWorld Congress will present advances being made to robotics by getting robots to compete in live football matches. The games are a way of highlighting developments that are being achieved in areas such as artificial intelligence, programming and sensor networks.
The robots will compete in enclosed spaces and the games will be split depending on the style of the robots such as whether they can operate autonomously or by remote control. In the case of the humanoids, which are built like people, the robots will be tested on their ability to walk, avoid tackles or take a penalty.
Along with the games the congress will combine technical presentations and discussions, to share ideas and look at how robotics can be developed for the future. Countries such as Japan and Korea for example are looking to develop the technology so that every home can have a robot which can perform domestic chores and other tasks such as teaching English.
The congress is due to run between 26th and 30th August 2011 within Kaohsiung’s Science and Technology University.
