Geelong Cycling Tour Now Open for Women Competitors

July 7, 2011 (FPRC) -- The tour will consist of a three stage race for women, equal to 150 kilometres where cyclists will be travelling around the roads of Gnarwarre, Ceres, Anakie and Geelong. Each section will challenge the cyclists with a mix of testing hill climbs as well as tests of speed along the sprints.
Changes have also been made to the men’s competition with increased prize money available and this is expected to draw even more entries compared to the 600 and more cyclists that entered into last year’s event.
The men’s championships consist of a longer tour covering 400kms divided into six stages. Again the stages will feature sprints and hills and the longest section will see riders cycling for around three and a half hours as they complete the three laps of the 47km circuit in stage five.
As sanctioned by Cycling Australia the event will include the Victorian Open Road Championships in both the men’s and women’s events and in the case of the men this will occur in the remaining three days. During the championships spectators can see riders pushing as hard as possible over the tarmac during both time trials and road races.
