August 24, 2011 (FPRC) -- When it comes to top of foot pain, many sufferers are baffled by the likely causes, and do not give the feet the immediate care they need. A new website has now been launched to improve understanding of the common problems causing top of foot pain; the symptoms, likely causes and recommended treatment options. Its aim, according to website creator Jennifer Lee “to help dispel fear, improve understanding and hasten a visit to a doctor when necessary”
Topoffootpain.org is one of a number of new websites launched in recent months which offers the layman more information on the common causes of foot pain. With many people turning to the internet in the first instance following the discovery of a health problem rather than visiting a doctor, the new site caters to an ever increasing audience.
Whilst doctors may dismay at the potential for misdiagnosis when a full case history, examination and the benefit of extensive training is replaced initially with a self diagnosis, there is in fact significant value to be had from websites such as these as Lee points out. “It’s a fact of life, that with such a wealth of information available on the internet, it is a natural place to turn to improve understanding of a foot problem. Many people often ignore foot pain and carry on without treatment in the hope that it will abate. This is never a wise choice, and my new website aims to provide the necessary information to hasten a visit to a doctor, rather than replace their services”.
Having information easily on hand on the common and not so common problems affecting the top of the foot, is clearly intended to save time searching and provide the necessary information to make an educated guess as to the likely cause of the problem. The website fills a gap in the market, with many heath sites focussing on the conditions themselves rather than common searches by the layman. “There are few resources available dealing with the common search terms of top of foot pain and alike. Many people do not have the faintest idea of what could be causing the pain, and would not therefore know what conditions to search for. By offering information relating directly to the main symptom of localised pain, I hope to let people have the necessary facts and advice at their fingertips” she says.
The second advantage of the website is that information is provided in an easy to read, and most importantly, easy to understand format. Many websites get the balance wrong with the level of detail required by the casual internet surfer, either dumbing down the subject matter, or providing too much technical detail and confusing visitors. Topoffootpain.org appears to have achieved a good balance, offering enough information to satisfy visitor’s needs, without the confusion which often happens with many medical websites.
The website covers the common problems affecting the top of the foot, including metatarsal stress fractures, metatarsal stress, cuboid syndrome and the midtarsal fault among others, offering enough detail for a tentative home diagnosis, the seriousness of the condition, and when a doctor's visit is advisable.
Jennifer plans to expand the website over the coming weeks, and whilst already comprehensive in its treatment of top of foot pain, there are still improvements to be made, as Jennifer points out. “I would like the website to become the number one resource on the internet for top of foot pain, in terms of the likely causes and common treatment options. I will be adding more information about products which can be used for treatment, and will explain how they work and why they are necessary, so that my visitors are more likely to use them correctly when prescribed.”
