September 11, 2011 (FPRC) -- Not only was MEMORIES a winner in the Global eBook Awards in the Mystery/Suspense Category, Book Two in the series, THE QUARRY, was a finalist in the Mystery/Amateur Sleuth Category, and Books Three and Four, THE FARM FIRES and THE DEMISE OF THE HORSE FAIRY were nominees in the Mystery Category.

MEMORIES begins in 1932, when after suffering the loss of two firefighter friends in one fire, followed by the deaths of his wife and son in another fire, former NYC Fire Captain Jake McCann is appointed fire chief in the small town of Woodhill, Ohio where his twin brother Dave is a physician. The town may be small, but the trouble and turmoil in Woodhill are not. Jake is joined by his two closest friends, Freddy Pratter and Mickey Justini, who are appointed to the fire departmetn with Jake. Like Jake, they have their own personal demons. Sharing an interest in horses, Jake falls in love with Laura Darvey, a woman married to a local gangster. The affair causes the three friends to become tangled in a series of horrifying crimes that force them all to unexpectedly face their demons.

"Everyone is talking about ebooks," said Dan Poynter, founder of the Global eBook Awards. "eBooks have reached the tipping point and are outselling books on paper in several categories. eBooks are not replacing paper books; they are in addition to. The eReading devices such as the Kindle are increasing the amount of book reading."

According to Joseph Dowdy, the Director of Awards, this year's competition demonstrated the power of eBooks to bring new voices to the world of literature. "We had one author who had just completed her first eBook and she won in her category. What a great victory for her and for budding writers everywhere," he commented. "We congratulate all the winners, finalists and nominated entries and we wish them all continued success as others discover their talent and value their work."
