San Diego Heating Air Pro Warns Against Neglecting Annual Furnace Inspection

Annual furnace inspection and cleaning helps prevent fires and carbon monoxide poisoning, according to Gabriel Carini, a San Diego, CA heating, air conditioning and ventilation expert.

December 14, 2011 (FPRC) -- SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA - Chilly temperatures have people turning on the furnace without a second thought, but Carini Heating And Air Conditioning wants to remind them that it is important to get an annual furnace inspection and cleaning to prevent fires and carbon monoxide poisoning.

"We like to send out a reminder because we know the furnace isn't the first thing people are thinking about during the holidays, and we just want everyone to stay safe," says Gabriel Carini, who is a San Diego heating air conditioning and ventilation expert.

San Diego Gas & Electric utility company also urged customers to be safe and get their furnaces inspected by a licensed, qualified professional since the leading cause of carbon monoxide in a home is due to a problem with the furnace.

"Getting regular inspections, learning the signs that indicate a danger of carbon monoxide poisoning and educating yourself on how to safely use and maintain gas appliances helps protect your family," says Carini, who has years of experience in the heating and air conditioning service industry.

Low to moderate carbon monoxide poisoning has symptoms that present much like the flu minus the fever, such as headache, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea and dizziness.

The colorless, odorless, tasteless, poisonous gas is produced when carbon-based fuels, such as kerosene, gasoline, propane, natural gas, oil, charcoal or wood, are burned with inadequate amounts of oxygen. The technical term is called incomplete combustion, and that is what can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.

"Carbon monoxide detectors function as an alert to homeowners of a dangerous level of the gas, but for their own safety they should not replace routine inspections and cleanings of their furnace," says Carini, a heating and air conditioning maintenance specialist.

For more information about carbon monoxide poisoning and safety, visit the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission or the local utility company.
