Air Passenger Duty Could Be Scrapped
Air Passenger Duty has annoyed many of us, now the he Federation of Tour Operators are getting involved, and could help the Tax being scrapped
February 26, 2007 (FPRC) -- Lets face it none of us agree with the Air Passenger Duty and now it looks like neither does The Federation of Tour Operators (FTO), they have now launched their own legal challenge to APD, and if they win it would mean that Air Passenger Duty could be scrapped altogether.
In February this Tax has doubled, the prices are as follows:
Economy class flights in Europe also internal UK flights is £10
Business and first class flights within Europe is £20
Economy class for long-haul flights is £40
Business and first class long-haul flights is£80
And it is the way in which the Tax works that the FTO have the problem with. They have stated that the way in which the government has doubled the tax has breached the Human Rights Act.
The Federation of Tour Operators have looked into the 1944 Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation. This has been part of the European Union law since 2004, .In this agreement the government are only allowed to make a charge if they are providing a service. They also stated that the government are not allowed to charge people to leave the UK, which is essentially what they are doing.
The Federation of Tour Operators and the Air Passenger Duty would be removed then the government would have to pay over £2 Billion back, which is something i feel that the government would fight against. At the end of the day the government are here to screw normal people into the ground.
