Dvla Private Number Plates Auction a Success

Prices achieved , numbers unsold , bargains bought at last DVLA auction

June 5, 2007 (FPRC) -- The DVLA continue to enjoy success with their auctions of previously unissued car number plates.The latest sale was held at Shrigley Hall , Cheshire on the 25th,26th and 27th of April. Bids were taken by letter,telephone,on line and of course in person in the room.

Top price paid was £25,000 + vat + auctioneers commission + transfer fee ( approx £31250 total ) for the number SSK 4 which is surprisingly high as 1 JLT only brought £18500 net , but as anyone who knows auctions will tell you , it all depends who is bidding on the day. Other notable high prices were £15,000 for 1 KPW and £14,400 for KHA 21D ( presumably because it resembles KHALID. 1 numbers continue to demand high prices with the lowest being 1 DUJ, 1EEU , 1 JYK, and 1 YYW all at £4900.
Lowest prices were £250 with the best value one of these being J21 JPW .Other genuine bargains in the lower price range were MOL 5S at £400 , 22 DXN at £550 while 6 KRX at £900 and DES 1D at £1200 were pretty sound purchases.
Most expensive car number plate must be OO07 CAR at £5600 whilst TAX 1Y seemed to be the highest non name non car related plate at £3400.
Surprisingly unsold numbers were 85 GF , NAS 66,2 TLJ and PO55 UMS ( no aussies in the audience then ).

Total income for the DVLA ( or treasury if you like ) was in excess of £4 million and as the DVLA do not have to buy these numbers ,they are un-issued numbers that have not been used previously this is nearly all profit.

The next auction of private number plates is on the 4th , 5th and 6th of July and will be held at the Haycock Hotel Wansford in Cambridgeshire.A catalogue can be ordered by calling 0800 089 2222. You can bid in person,by phone , by letter or on-line but you must register in advance.If you are bidding for a high reserve number it is suggested you attend so you can absorb the whole experience which will make your number all the more enjoyable but remember to set yourself a limit as many people get carried away and bid too much.
