Do-It-Yourself Book Marketing
Equipping first time authors with tools to maximize sales, to grow in speaking and presenting confidence, as well as developing promotional skills to move into the fast lane with less frustration, positioned for greater success.
March 27, 2008 (FPRC) -- The first time self-published author armed with a few basic tools can blast out the box with the power to take control and make their book launch a success but most have no clue what to do outside of getting in the book stores and online, ending up wasting valuable time learning through trial and error and too often quit before they get started.
The biggest challenge to the first time self-published author after writing and publishing the book is what to do next. Unfortunately, this is not just a self-published author problem but many traditionally published authors find themselves in this spot.
Publishing Coach/Entrepreneur Blondie L. Clayton has heard the stories and witness the fallout from authors who were excited about writing and publishing a book, only to find out that books don’t move themselves, that the author doesn’t get to sit back and do nothing to increase book sales.
Coach Clayton offers these suggestions for getting started with your marketing plan and tips on how to get the most out of them: tools: business cards, post cards, flyers, book marks; other promotional items like pens, pencils, depending on what your book is about.
Make your business card stand out by using your book cover as a mini logo, or design the card like the book cover. If you wrote a book about finance, you might make your card to look like a $100 bill on one side.
Post cards will give you more promotional mileage then business cards. With a post card you can make the front your book cover, organize the back as a mailer. This way you could hand them out, or mail them out.
Pens/pencils may end up any where. If you are a Cancer Survivor, you can get more pens/pencils for the buck, so why not do something catchy, like have the pen/pencil printed with these words: “I Am A Cancer Survivor Read My Story at www.catheesdol.com.”
Self-published authors have to get creative if they are going to stay the course and succeed at marketing and selling books.
