Debut Novel About White Collar Crime That Spirals out of Control by Dublin Businessman Turned Writer – One Last Time by Mark Beggs

Dublin businessman turned writer Mark Beggs; the author of a newly released action thriller novel shares his traumatic personal life experiences and inspiration for writing this ingenious fictional page-turner.

May 31, 2008 (FPRC) -- It is a thriller about white collar crime that spirals out of control. The ingenious twists in the plot make ‘One Last Time’ a real page-turner. It features the intriguing relationship between the central character David Munroe, an unlikely criminal, and detective Susan Williams, and the acute moral dilemma they face, as well as the deadly situation they end up in. This novel has a vividness and realism that is gripping. ‘One Last Time’ reflects the frailties of human nature and charts the disastrous spiralling effect of a seemingly simple act of deceit by a sad, lonely man. It is written by Dublin businessman Mark Beggs who turned to writing fiction after his business collapsed and he was hit with bad publicity over the company management.

The central character in the book David Munroe is disillusioned with his career and his life as a whole. The death of his wife leaves him floundering and to fill the void he finds a new love. His new love is costing him a lot, so he begins to borrow money from his employers without their knowledge. On the verge of being caught and losing everything he holds dear in life, he has to find a way to repay the money in four weeks. The banks turn him down for a loan so he decides to take the money from the banks the hard way. With incredible ingenuity and disguise he keeps the police on the wrong track and is all set to carry out one last job to clear the slate.

Despite being dyslexic, Mark Beggs has a natural story-telling ability. While his writing is purely fictional, he draws on his experience in business and life in general, including twice being a robbery victim at his business premises, once shot at, and, on a second occasion in 1994, stabbed.
“For fifteen years I had successfully owned and run businesses in the UK and Ireland, notably growing the likes of internet service provider, Indigo, from €100K turnover to over €40 million in four years. But, suddenly, some bad luck and some bad press undermined everything” Mark says.
“So I sat in my kitchen and I started to write, both to keep myself sane and to pass the time. I started on short stories and when I won a competition in the States, and had my story published in a book of short stories, I began to write my novel. “I am writing another book and again it will have a few good twists and turns that I hope will keep the reader interested. But the ending will blow anyone’s mind, and if you’re a woman it may well be your worst nightmare so watch this space. People find it strange when I tell them that I am dyslexia and yet have written a book. But I actually think it helped me because I have a great imagination for stories. Also Bill Cullen of Penny Apples fame enjoyed the book and is writing a positive review on it.”
