Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Donates School Suplies to YWCA Dayton

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority donates back packs and clothing vouchers to domestic violence shelter.

July 29, 2008 (FPRC) -- The Tau Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority donated 30 backpacks and 20 vouchers for shoes and school uniforms to the YWCA Dayton’s Back to School Wish List Program. Both the YW and AKA share the same mission to assist homeless and needy children’s transition into school by providing them with basic, needed school supplies, uniforms and/or shoes.

Tau Lambda Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority recognizes that many women choose the YWCA Dayton to assist them in their time of need. Leticia Wilson, Operation Back to School Chair, stated that many of the YW’s clients have school aged children and assistance to help these children be successful in school is greatly needed. Operation Back to School is designed to empower those who are powerless. The Sorority believes that every child that stays in school can hopefully look forward to a bright future.

The YWCA Dayton is continuing its Back to School Wish List program through September. Donations of school supplies can be dropped off at the YWCA located at 141 W. Third St. at the corner of Wilkinson St., Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Monetary donations are always welcome (no cash, please) and can be mailed to YWCA Dayton, 141 W.
