High-end Bike Boutique Kgs Bikes Adds Kirklee Custom Frames to Its Lineup

KGS Bikes, the premier custom bicycle shop, is adding Kirklee custom frames to its lineup.

JUNE 25, 2009 - KGS Bikes of San Antonio, Texas, a premiere ultra high-end bicycle boutique, has added KirkLee custom bicycle frames to its lineup.

“KirkLee is one of the up and coming leaders in true custom carbon-fiber frames. They have great designs, extremely high quality and build a lightweight frame that rounds out our offerings to clients," KGS President Kevin Saunders said.

Brad Cason, president of Austin-based KirkLee, called KGS a "true bicycle boutique, that combines world-class expertise, a one-of-a-kind fitting system and the comfortable buying experience that Kevin Saunders has created. He said the agreement with KGS will take his company to the "next level of manufacturing."

Cason represents "the best of what I look for in a frame builder," Saunders said. “The client has to ride this bike for years and as such, I only work with people who have the passion and expertise to perform at a world class level and do it consistently.”

Saunders cited KirkLee’s light, stiff frames that weigh as little as 850 grams, the complete customization KGS needs for its clients, as well as the company’s location in Austin.

A former bicycle racer, Saunders studied pre-med in college and uses his knowledge of human anatomy when he makes his custom bikes.

A proprietary fitting system determines the balance points for each rider and allows the bicycle to be totally engineered around the owner.

"We have the same level of technology that was formerly available only to people like Lance Armstrong. Our clients feel they get great value in obtaining a true lifestyle investment rather than a commodity bike like everyone else," Saunders said.

Prices for KGS custom bikes start at about $8,000 and range to more
than $30,000.

KGS is showing their custom bicycles in the Buffalo Springs Lake Triathlon in Lubbock, Friday through Sunday, and a KirkLee model will be in the KGS booth.

"I wanted to have an example of KirkLee's workmanship and design in the expo booth as they are in the design phase of a world class triathlon frame. I feel it will be aerodynamic, light, efficient and above all comfortable,” Saunders said.
