The Scooter Libby Indictment: First Breach In The Levee

The indictment of Scooter Libby is the first breach in the protective wall of lies and deception which has allowed the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld neo-conservative gang to push us into this needless, senseless, disastrous, illegal, immoral, totally-unjustified war in Iraq - and keep us there forever.

The Scooter Libby Indictment: First Breach In The Levee.

During the Hurricane Katrina disaster, an early-morning breach in the levee Aug. 29 led to flooding in downtown New Orleans and on the city's west side. When the first levee broke open, the water came pouring in and the deluge began. More breaches followed, and soon most of the city was underwater.

Something like that is now happening to the Bush administration. But now that the wall has been broken in one place, the truth will come flooding in. More breaches will follow, and soon the entire area will be swamped.

Saddam was totally under control and had already destroyed the weapons he once did have. He posed no real threat to any other country. And the Bush Neocons knew this, but decided to go ahead anyway. Why? Because their desire to grab the oil and seize power in the Middle East outweighed all other considerations.

What should we do now in Iraq? Who knows? Certainly the Bush administration does not know. There seems to be nothing good we can do. If the train has already jumped off the railroad tracks and slid down the side of the mountain, what should you do then? Our choices are limited to only a few options, all of them bad. We never should have started this war in the first place.

But there is, however, one thing we can and should do now: get rid of the people who got us into this mess. If we don't get rid of them now, who knows what further disasters they will lead us into, trying to justify their previous mistakes. Maybe attack Iran? Maybe attack Syria? No! No! No! Not in my name!

In a Democracy, the citizens are guilty of the sins of their leaders, because the citizens have ultimate control over their leaders. We cannot simply pretend we are blameless: we elected them and let them stay in power. We are just as guilty as they are. But now we have a chance to repent and start over again, by ousting those who so badly misused the power we let them have.

Resignations are the first choice, with impeachments to follow as needed. And all of us should wake up, particularly the journalists and our elected representatives who went along with the whole thing until now. We must never allow our country to do anything this stupid again.

Blessings to you. May God help us all.
