HBO Archives Makes Entertainment News Footage Available for Clip Licensing
Featuring over 30 years of footage highlighting all facets of the entertainment industry.
November 11, 2009 (FPRC) -- This summer, HBO Archives retrieved over 13,000 videotapes of never-before-cataloged footage highlighting all facets of the world of Entertainment dating from the early 1980’s to the late 1990’s. This newly available material now joins HBO Archives vast Entertainment News Library, covering the 1970’s to the present, all of which are offered for clip licensing.
“This collection is one of great depth and breadth,” says Chris Spencer, Executive Vice President, HBO Creative Services. “Since the ‘70’s we have produced celebrity featurettes and specials starting with our classic “On Location” and “Standing Room Only” programs, resulting in a plethora of one-of-a-kind archival footage.”
The extensive library of the HBO Entertainment News division holds exclusive behind-the-scenes, red carpet premiere and gala appearances, as well as celebrity interviews from the world of movies, television, music and comedy. Filled with profiles of big-name directors, actors, musicians, producers and writers, the collection captures the magic of Hollywood and beyond.
Full coverage of the major industry award events, such as the Oscars®, Grammy’s, Emmys®, Cannes and Golden Globes® have been staples since the entertainment division started. Footage includes pre-show nomination lunches, pre-and-post show interviews and star-studded parties.
“The mid-80s through the mid-90s were our golden period,” says Spencer. “We went beyond the featurettes and produced original series that continued to build respect within the celebrity community.” Some of the groundbreaking programs for HBO included “The Talk Show,” “Behind the Scenes”, “The Max Movie Show” and “World Entertainment Report.”
During the last decade, the focus of HBO Entertainment News has expanded to HBO original programs with unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to a new generation of classics like The Sopranos®, Sex and the City® and Entourage® as well as celebrated miniseries and movies. The most recent footage produced by the Entertainment News division is available in high definition.
Honored with virtually every major programming award including the Emmy’s®, Oscars®, Golden Globes® and Peabody’s, HBO has long been known for its uncompromising commitment to quality and innovation in live event programming, journalism and storytelling.
