New Earthquake iPhone and iPad App Can Help Save Lives

An extraordinary iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone application has been released which has the potential to save the lives of those caught in an earthquake while at the same time offering news and information to those living in seismically active areas.

June 8, 2010 (FPRC) -- QuakeSOS, a team of keen quake watchers from Belgium, have released an revolutionary new application for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The QuakeSOS app, which is free and can be downloaded from Apple's App store, provides those living in earthquake prone areas with the latest earthquake information and news as well as a quick way to cry for help if caught in a devastating tremor.

Whether used in California, Mexico, Japan or Chile, this iPhone application can be a useful instrument to save lives. If caught in an earthquake, users of this app can send messages via the QuakeSOS web site telling friends and family if they are safe or in need of help along with their GPS rescue coordinates. Also those who are fortunate enough to live away from the epicenter of any tremor can use the app to tell QuakeSOS that they also felt the ground shaking which could provide valuable information in determining the size and effect of an earthquake.

The app also provides the latest earthquake news and information. The News part of the application provides the latest earthquake news directly to your device while the Quake section provides real earthquake data and maps.

"QuakeSOS proves that a smartphone can do more than being a hype or a gadget" said Vincent Van Quickenborne, the Belgian Minister of Economic Affairs, in a recent Tweet.

QuakeSOS is free and is available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It can be downloaded from Apple's App Store. It is currently ranking well in the top 50 Social Networking applications for earthquake prone countries.
