Plans for Affordable New Homes in Nottinghamshire

New homes will be built in Nottinghamshire and made available as affordable housing to buy as part of a major regeneration scheme.

May 1, 2013 (FPRC) -- The regeneration scheme will include the construction of thirty eight two bedroom bungalows in Nottingham City centre for residents who are over 55 years of age. The site is a former sheltered housing scheme and the new build homes will be rented to older people and those with disabilities.

A further 108 new affordable homes will also be built for local families throughout Nottinghamshire in 2013 and 2014.

Because of the shortage of funding for new build affordable housing, the scheme has been funded by partnerships. Funding has been provided by the UK Government’s Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) Affordable Housing Programme. Derwent Living, who provides affordable homes in the Midlands, is also investing in the project whilst additional funding has been provided by several Nottinghamshire local authorities. Derwent Living offers affordable properties in Nottinghamshire for rental to people on lower incomes with housing need. Their rental properties are below the average rental market rates.

The construction developments will also offer training and employment opportunities and help boost the economy in the area.

The regeneration project is part of a wider programme for the area to develop and provide affordable housing. The local authorities are working in conjunction with private house builders and housing associations to enable funding for the purpose of building affordable new homes.
