September 9, 2013 (FPRC) -- Mark Prisk is encouraging house builders to use construction techniques that will make building new homes faster, simpler and more seamless. Visiting an award winning site called Newhall:B in Harlow, Essex consisting of 84 new homes, he saw first-hand how innovative and efficient the development was built. The roofs were manufactured and built off-site to improve the speed and design of the new homes. The number of homes is also cleverly designed so that they fit into a smaller land area.
Compared to the usual, conventional construction techniques, building the roofs saved six weeks on the lead time and also gives the homeowners the option of a loft extension if required. There are also inbuilt stairs and plasterboard ready for a simple loft conversion to take place. The whole structure of the roof was made from timber which also takes less time.
The new development offers a range of apartments, terraced homes and detached villa homes for young couples and families. There is also a selection of affordable housing on the site. The award-winning designs incorporate higher ceiling space and larger doors and skylights which allow in a greater amount of natural light.
Fleur Rowan of What House? says, 'House builders are continually looking for efficiency, carbon reducing and timescale improvements in the way they build new homes. With demand growing for new homes and the property market picking up rapidly, innovative improvements such as the ones demonstrated on this new build project will lead the way for enhanced construction standards.'
There are plans to build a further 300 new homes on the development.
