Logan Farm Equipment Hosts Russian Delegation

Logan Farm Equipment hosted a Russian delegation on March 18th. The delegation came to learn about potato planting and harvesting.

Logan Farm Equipment hosted a Russian delegation that consisted of six representatives from farms from three different regions. The regions that were represented were from Chelyabinsk, Moscow, and Lipetsk.

The visit from the Russian delegation consisted of a plant tour, walking through the equipment yard and viewing new and used equipment. Interest was expressed in the prep for shipping equipment overseas, the equipment reconditioning process, and both new and used potato farm equipment.

Two local farms also invited the delegation for a look at their operation, Parkinsons Seed Farms and Arnold Farm. These farms were of particular interest because of the Russian farms desire to learn the process of sorting and cutting of seed and developing a certified seed program. Currently, most of the potato seed in Russia is imported from Poland. Nue Seed is working on helping with a certification seed program. Also, creating a seed export market to Russia would be beneficial for Idaho and the United States. Idaho Department of Agriculture and Idaho Department of Commerce both had representatives present.

“The delegation was intrigued with operations to cut, sort, and plant seed. Also, they asked questions about our harvesting method and techniques used to reduce bruising. They are interested in western technology and how we handle potatoes,” says, Clinton Arnold, Director of Sales of Logan Farm Equipment. Arnold is planning to visit Russia soon to continue to help with the education process.
