Creative Diagnostics launched Zika Virus NS1 Protein to assist the medical and life science researchers for Zika Virus research.

--

Creative Diagnostics, a global leader in the supply of life science research products and services, announced the launch of Zika Virus NS1 Protein to assist the medical and life science researchers that are working to address the evolving concerns around Zika Virus infection.

Zika virus NS1 protein 1 (Non-Structural protein 1) has been manufactured in response to the unmet need for highly purified, concentrated protein for use in serological based diagnostic assays. Zika virus NS1 protein is engineered in human cells using state-of-the-art expression and purification techniques. It has been produced to the same standards as other NS1 proteins, and is presented as a highly purified liquid protein.

The mosquito-borne Zika virus is prompting worldwide concern because of its connection to a neurological birth disorder and its rapid spread across the globe. The virus was first isolated in Central Africa, and has since been spread to South Asia and recently to South America. It can cause mild fever, rash, myalgia, arthralgia and headaches, with one in four infected individuals being asymptomatic. Due to similar symptoms Zika virus infected individuals can easily be mis-diagnosed as a dengue infection and vice-versa. In addition, Zika virus has been implicated in causing microcephaly through transmission in utero. There is no vaccine or specific treatment available for Zika virus.

Dr. Jessica Waldorf, chief scientific officer of R&D department of Creative Diagnostics, said: "Our antigen has been developed in our mammalian cell expression system with significant advantages over alternative approaches which are important for detection. Furthermore, such unique protein also enables a greater spectrum of serological tests to be developed which will help diagnosis and epidemiology."

"As the biomedical and scientific communities continue to respond to the public health concerns represented by the Zika Virus, Creative Diagnostics will still work closely with them to ensure they have the research and biological reference materials they need for their work. We are glad to make our Zika Virus NS1 Protein accessible to researchers." added by Dr. Randy S. Vaughn, director of marketing, Creative Diagnostics.
