Wellesley-Weston Magazine Features Author Dick Pirozzolo of 'Escape from Saigon - a Novel'
'Escape from Saigon - a Novel' adds to the spate of new novels such as 'The Sympathizer' and Ken Burns PBS special on the Vietnam War. 'More Americans are turning to the Vietnam War to get a perspective on U.S. entanglements overseas, especially with the war in Afghanistan entering its 13th year and talk of sending more American troops there,' said Dick Pirozzolo who coauthored 'Escape from Saigon' with Michael Morris.
May 24, 2017 (FPRC) -- Wellesley-Weston Magazine, the slick suburban Boston lifestyle magazine, reviewed 'Escape from Saigon - a Novel' in its summer 2017 edition, just out now.
According to the magazine serving two of the wealthiest communities in Massachusetts, 'Escape from Saigon' is a story of intrigue, adventure and romance wrapped in factual accounts of the last month of the Vietnam War. Fictional characters NBS-TV's Lisette Vo and Sam Esposito, the hard hitting Washington Legend reporter who infuriated Richard Nixon, chronicle the watershed events leading up to the Fall of Saigon.
'It's a suspenseful tale with twists, turns and surprises, while it remains true to the historical record. Several characters are not who they seem to be and ordinary people become heroes as the clock keeps ticking,' says Pirozzolo, a former Air Force press officer in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and founder of Pirozzolo Company Public Relations in Boston.
The current popularity of Vietnam War literature, such as 'The Sympathizer,' by Viet Nguyen and the upcoming Ken Burns PBS documentary on the war, make 'Escape from Saigon' especially timely. 'Americans increasingly want look back at the Vietnam War for perspective on our current -- and seemingly endless -- foreign entanglements,' notes Pirozzolo who played a prominent role in U.S.-Vietnam reconciliation during the mid 1990's
The novel has won praise from several prominent authors and journalists:
Winston Groom, author of Forrest Gump wrote, 'Escape from Saigon brings to life the lives of the men and women trapped in the capital city.'
Casey Sherman, The New York Times Bestselling Author of 'The Finest Hours,' and 'Boston Strong' wrote, 'Escape from Saigon is a sweeping saga…in the grand tradition of Michener and Clavell,'
Llewellyn King, executive producer and host of PBS-TV’s 'White House Chronicle,' put it this way: 'Escape from Saigon has the same ring of authenticity as Graham Greene’s The Quiet American. Its portrait of city in extremis is chilling and completely engrossing.'
'Escape from Saigon' (264 pages) was published by Skyhorse Publishing, New York in 2017.
