Tallahassee, Fla. – What’s wrong with this picture? Elementary school teacher needs to make copies for her class. She goes to the front office to make copies and is told there’s no paper—won’t be for several days—“money is tight,” she is told. Teacher calls husband. Asks him to go to Office Depot (they give discounts to teachers) during his lunch break to pick up some paper. Understanding husband does as he’s asked. Problem solved—for now. Tomorrow there will be something else this teacher and thousands like her will need for their students. Some will turn to parents for help. Most will dig down deep into their own pockets to cover the costs.

Teachers shouldn’t have to use their own money to educate our kids, but they do and they will because that’s what most teachers do—they go above and beyond the call of duty. “It’s my calling,” many teachers will say. However, it is becoming an increasingly expensive calling. In a 2002 report on Teacher Buying Behavior and Attitudes done by Denver-based Quality Education Data, Inc. it was found that K-8 grade teachers in the U.S. spend approximately one billion dollars (about $512 per teacher) of their own money each year for instructional materials and classroom supplies. Teachers need our help.

“Nearly every state is having fiscal problems. As a result schools and school districts across America are struggling to find ways to fill the gaps created by state, federal and local budget cuts,” says Joseph Mizereck, president of GrantsAlert.com. “Our teachers and schools need help in finding and securing the resources they need to educate our kids. Our mission at www.GrantsAlert.com is to help them find and capture those resources to do their work and do it well.”

In 2004, www.GrantsAlert.com was founded to make life easier for educators and administrators in their pursuit of grants and funding opportunities. In addition, www.GrantsAlert.com provides a directory of grant writers. The Grant Writers’ Directory offers grant seekers nationwide access to some of America’s most talented and experienced grant writers.

“Our focus is on finding and sharing information on education funding opportunities that will help our teachers and schools,” said Mizereck. www.GrantsAlert.com provides educators and education leaders with free access to up-to-date announcements of corporate, foundation, state and federal education funding opportunities—and only education. “That’s what makes us unique,” according to Mizereck. “And if you’re like a lot of districts out there that don’t have someone on staff who can write a winning proposal, they can turn to our Grant Writers’ Directory. It’s the perfect solution for schools that have neither the staff nor the experience required to write successful proposals.”
