October 11, 2013 (FPRC) -- John Chatterton, popular host of the History Channel’s series Deep Sea Detectives and one of the world’s most accomplished and well-known wreck divers, will present “Sunken, but not Silent,” a day-long workshop for scuba enthusiasts at the Classic Center on October 19, 2013 from 1:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event, which includes dinner, discussion, and personal diving videos from some of the world’s most intriguing wrecks, is sponsored by Dolphin Dive Center of Athens. The cost is $65 per person.

This custom, non-certification program will give divers and dive enthusiasts a rare opportunity to hear personal insights from a veteran instructor and one of the most renowned professionals in the field. Chatterton’s expeditions to shipwrecks like the Andrea Doria, Lusitania, Britannic, and U-869, as well as a submersible expedition to the Titanic, makes “Sunken, but not Silent” a must for anyone who enjoys scuba and wants to learn more about the sport.

Chatterton was a member of a group of divers credited with discovering and subsequently identifying the German submarine U-869, 60 miles off the coast of New Jersey. That accomplishment was the subject of a two-hour PBS documentary in 2000 called “Hitler’s Lost Sub,” and was also immortalized in Rob Kurson’s international bestseller “Shadow Divers.” A major motion picture by 20th Century Fox, based on that book and directed and produced by Peter Weir, is currently in production.

Discussion during the October workshop will include such topics as: navigation, equipment, diving physiology, technical diving, dive planning, wreck research, shipwreck penetration techniques, and decision making. Participants are urged to bring questions, opinions, and relative issues. The goal of the workshop is to expose divers to different perspectives on wreck diving in an entertaining and informative forum, enabling them to become better divers. There are no prerequisites for the workshop, which is open to divers of all backgrounds, experience levels, and certifications.
