January 7, 2014 (FPRC) -- On Saturday, January 4th, after a year-long effort of hosting events and raising funds, Artist John Ross Palmer has broken ground for the construction of the Escapist Artist Gallery & Studios. The empowering structure will serve as the ultimate artist training ground and the epicenter of his Art Movement of Escapism to forever destroy the stereotype of the struggling artist. The new, free-standing and two-story addition at 1218 Heights Boulevard was funded from Palmer’s most elite art patrons as well as a global community of art enthusiasts that contributed to his Refuse to Struggle Indiegogo Campaign. Prior to the online campaign, Palmer and his husband Ryan Lindsay achieved over $50,000 of cash on hand in their construction fund. Their Refuse to Struggle crowd funding endeavor earned $76,113 in just 46 days with over 300 contributors from all over the world. The building serves to take Palmer’s prestigious Escapist Mentorship Program (EscapistProgam.com) to the “next level” by giving the accepted artists both a first-class space to create in a personal studio and show in a gallery during their year in the program. Founded in 2009, the Escapist Mentorship Program has had applicants from around the world and will remain entirely for free for those that survive the juried application and interview process.

John Palmer Art has calendared a tentative Grand Opening for the weekend of June 21-22nd that will feature 2013 Escapist of the Year William H. Miller. Miller earned the Featured Artist spot by selling all 50 of his Refuse to Struggle prints that he donated to the online campaign. After the grand opening, the space will be dedicated to the use and education of the current Escapist Artists (the scoring of the applications for the 2014 Escapists start the week of January 13th).
