May 30, 2014 (FPRC) -- Gospel music giant, Sara Jordan Powell, makes her screen acting debut in THE MIZPAH BENEDICTION, a crowd-funded, indie film from veteran writer/director John Huff. Powell, respected for her semi-operatic soprano and ear-piercing gymnastics, has sung Gospel in the White House for two Presidents and toured with the great Ray Charles. And now after performing for over 44 years will take to the Big Screen for the first time in her career!
In her feature film entree, Powell plays Willetta, a good foster Mom, who loves across differences -- even across hate. "She's the one who connects with the exceptional humanity in others -- even if they don't believe it's there." says Huff. "So it's galvanizing to debut Sara in MIZPAH because she is this kind of loving person in real life."
THE MIZPAH BENEDICTION stars actor and composer, Miri Hunter, as an Atheist daughter, called home to the deathbed of her foster Mom (Powell) for a desperate plea. "The mother/daughter narrative which unfolds is both posthumous and existential," says Huff. MIZPAH BENEDICTION also stars Huff's neophyte acting discovery, Jordyn Crawford, in her feature debut, and co-stars Adia Joelle, Patti Brown, William Kelly and Jeff Smithling.
