Doctible closes $700k seed round to bring transparency to healthcare, providing consumers with the ability to view doctor prices before booking their appointment online. --
Doctible, Inc., an online healthcare network announced the closure of its $700k seed round led by strategic Healthcare-IT investor, Bootstrap Incubation, with participation from Tech Coast Angels, in addition to angel investors from Facebook, Apple and prominent industry executives.
The company also unveiled its first product, an online healthcare marketplace that leverages cash prices from doctors to enable consumers to shop for healthcare based on price, quality and location. Doctible was founded by Ajit Viswanathan and Leon Hu on the principle that people should have access to healthcare at affordable prices. By enabling price transparency in the health care industry, consumers are able to make most of their health spend; from routine medical and dental checks to urgent care.
The platform is targeted for the rapidly growing segment of 33.9 million Americans who are on High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP) and responsible for a majority of their healthcare costs. Doctible launched with 13 specialities including Eye Doctors, Chiropractors, Dermatologists, Dentists, Psychiatrists, Podiatrists and other types of providers in the San Diego area. The website enables users to view various attributes of healthcare professionals including their cash rates prior to booking an appointment online.
"Traditionally, people for most part have been cushioned from high healthcare costs since they had good insurance plans. Due to the high influx of High Deductible plans, consumers have a greater need to understand their costs prior to the visit to ensure they are not left with a sticker shock bill. Our mission is to ensure that every one has access to this information to help them make an educated decision." said Ajit Viswanathan.
"With the recent changes in healthcare trends that have shifted costs to consumers, there is a dire need for transparency and ability for consumers to know their costs upfront. Doctible is a great example of what we look for, a fantastic team taking a unique approach to the massive problem of healthcare costs and accessibility" said Jean Balgrosky, Managing Partner of Bootstrap Incubation and former Chief Information Officer, Scripps Health.
The platform is free to use and has more than 500 doctors in the San Diego region. Doctible says that by booking via their site, users can save up to 40% on what they would pay with insurance. Users can see a doctor of their choosing without having to worry if the doctor they choose is in their health insurance network.
Doctible (www.doctible.com) was founded in 2013 to provide consumers with a platform to shop for healthcare based on price, quality and convenience. We are launching one of the nation's first cash based healthcare networks to ensure that people have a full understanding of their healthcare costs before they visit the doctor. Doctible is currently headquartered in San Diego's premier technology incubator, EvoNexus.
