April 26, 2017 (FPRC) -- Asociación de Mexicanas Aliadas of New York City (AMA NYC), will recognize renowned journalist Carmen Aristegui with the presentation of the "Seeds Award 2017", during a fundraiser that will take place on Thursday, April 27th at the Side Park Café of El Museo del Barrio in Manhattan.

Carmen Aristegui is one of the most influential women in Mexico. She graduated from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico’s School of Political and Social Sciences with a bachelor’s degree in Communication. Aristegui quickly achieved fame in the journalistic community having received 23 awards for various pieces.

The fundraising event will benefit training and educational programs for immigrant women who were victims of abuse and/or domestic violence organized by Bronx based non-profit organization Coalición Mexicana.

The master of ceremonies will be the Mexican journalist Alejandra Soto, who serves as an independent reporter for Univision 41 and worked in the Mayor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence in New York City.

Mexican artist María D. Jiménez, who emigrated to New York at 18, is pleased to have had the honor of carving and hand-painting the award that will be given to Ms. Aristegui. Her work has been exhibited in the galleries of Hostos Community College, Lehman College, Public Libraries and Community Center.

Jimenez, who counts Aristegui as a hero of her own was quoted as saying "Carmen Aristegui is a role model for women living outside of our country. It’s an honor for me to have been chosen by AMA NYC to be able to express my art in this recognition for her.”

AMA NYC is composed of professionals who have worked as volunteer instructors for the seminars on leadership and entrepreneurship carried out by the Mexican Coalition, through the International Business Incubator and in partnership with Hostos Community College.

"The Incubator is an initiative that promotes leadership and provides practical tools for all women who want to achieve economic stability and personal success. Being part of this recognition, which praises the great work and boldness of Aristegui, as well as the courage and effort of so many women in New York, honors the Mexican Coalition and its mission of empowerment, "said Jairo Guzman, the organization’s director.

"This fundraiser is important for us because the funds and support will impact the lives of a group of survivors of physical and mental abuse. They’ve received legal counsel and continue to receive emotional therapy from the city's programs, but also require training to integrate into working life and to become economically independent “said María Cristina Ríos, President of the AMA NYC.

"Carmen Aristegui practically becomes the godmother of this noble initiative and we are very grateful to her for having accepted our invitation to support this cause. Her commitment as a journalist is an example of leadership and has sown seeds of hope in many lives. This is not an award from a famous institution; it is a public acknowledgment from immigrant women who recognize her value as a professional, as a woman and as a human being,” said Gilda Meza, Vice President and PR of AMA NYC.

The Seeds Award 2017 is made possible thanks to partners Side Park Café, Mexican Coalition and CNN en Español.

Tickets are $50 for individuals with a $35 discounted ticket for students and can be purchased at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-seeds-award-2017-tickets-33533821563 .

Donations received during the event and thru the ticket sales site will be directed to the Mexican Coalition, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
